Internet Privacy and Personal Data Protection – Lecturers for High School Students

In March 2022, the Macedonian Young Lawyers Association (MYLA) held six lectures on the topic: “Internet Privacy and Personal Data Protection”. Four lectures were organized in Skopje in the school “Vasil Antevski Dren” and NOVA International School and two in Gevgelija in SOU “Josif Josifovski”. The lecturers Arben Gudaci, Data Protection and Privacy Specialist and Maja Atanasova, Gender Specialist, talked with the high school students and their teachers about personal data protection, online gender-based violence and the ways of acting in case of violation of rights.

The purpose of the lectures, in addition to introducing the participants to these topics, is to develop a Mechanism for protection and reporting of personal data violations and / or online violence. The activities aim to create a Declaration of Zero Tolerance in Schools for Personal Data Violation and Online Violence, which the schools will sign and publish among students.

According to the Agency for Personal Data Protection, in 2020 most of the complaints filed with the Agency related to the misuse of personal data on the Internet: opening fake profiles, hacked profiles and posting other people’s photos, audio and video recordings without permission.

These activities are organized within the “Your Privacy is Your Freedom” Project, implemented by MYLA with financial support from the American Bar Association – Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI).
